3 IDIOTS: A MOVIE TO REMEMBER

All is well. All is well. All is well. These are the lines I often hear from people who watched 3 IDIOTS. The remarkable comments would often be about fun, laughter and enjoyment the cast portrayed and the logic behind various subjects. While everyone gets on the buzz, I remained indifferent about the movie that I did not bother to watch it. I can hardly recall when it became a hit; perhaps months ago, even a year or so. Nevertheless, I entertained the idea of watching it if resources allow.

Voila!!! Someone shared with me a collection of movies and I chose what movie films to copy. I usually scan the list and find titles that interests me – this could be based on what other people have recommended to be fun and worth watching.  I have selected at most 10 movies and one of those is the 3 idiots :D

I was on my way to bed last night, around 11pm after I watched ABS-CBN teleseryes that I decided to view the files on my computer and spotted 3 idiots :D I was reluctant at first because I was a bit sleepy and would have loved to take a rest quite early.

Recalling what others say that it’s really fun to watch, I endured watching the introductory part and true enough, the scenarios got my attention and with the academe as the setting, my interest was heightened. I was also thinking though, that I might watch the whole series in instalment, that would mean, spending an hour or less, then pause and watch again the next day :D But the scenes went on without me noticing that I was already hooked with the story. :D That 2 hours and approximately 44 minutes of watching was a bit exhausting :D But the humor and lessons shared allowed me to finish watching the movie until 2:30 AM :D.

These are the things/lessons that inspired me all throughout the movie:

The courage to question the status quo – the existing and obsolete education system that we follow.

I was truly amazed how Rancho insisted his own ways of defining things the practical way. The teacher’s resistance is common among schools at all levels because we have practiced to memorize what the book says and be it the basis for passing the exams. Verbatim is the format to determine whether students learned.

Moreover, the requisites and inculcations in our education system can be reflected in 3 purposive statements: Study hard, get good grades and land a good job. These draw serious implications. For instance, the fear of committing mistakes hinder the creativity of the student. One becomes static and be dependent largely on books, that a minor mistake can be fatal. This poses a challenge among teachers to teach the students more on how to learn the concepts and allow them to apply it in their own ways.
The positive affirmation: All is Well.

This is highly contagious and becomes more powerful when we sincerely express it. Amidst troubles, challenges and frustrations, saying All is Well will be a boost. A new strength will be revived and one will become courageous to face any trials.

The value of friendship and the essence of empathy

Jouie, a friend and a batchmate once said: “Friends will always be friends no matter what one has become.” I so love the bond of Rancho, Farhan and Raju in the movie and the empathy, compassion and love they gave each other make it unparalleled. Overcoming hard and trying times was made easier because of their willingness to help each other in various circumstances.

The will to follow your heart.

What others say often define us and what they dictate influence us in making decisions. This is evident on what our parents, relatives and even the society tell us on what would we be in the future. While we owe them their suggestions, we have a voice within that we need to entertain. It’s the instinct, our desire to realize what we want to become. The will to follow would surely be a struggle considering the various factors but it would really be fulfilling if, once in our life, we follow our hearts J

Strive for excellence and success follows

I truly find this challenging because excellence is a lifelong commitment. It’s not just an act, but a series of repeated actions. One needs to consistently give the best way towards excellence. It’s a reminder that we should not settle for anything less that what is necessary. Doing things for the sake of compliance for instance is not a good practice.

Always be humble.

Humility is truly a virtue. One need not boast what he accomplished to outwit other people. I was amazed how Rancho remained humble even when he became the most sought scientist with 400 patents already. Chatur on the other hand, was put to shame because Rancho was far more successful than he is.

I really had a great time watching the movie. Thanks to Ebil for sharing a copy of it.
Have you watched the movie? Hmmm… You should watch it… J

Today is the beginning of my new life...

Today marks the beginning of my new life.

Today, I thank the Lord for all the blessings He has given me.

Today, I remember all the good things God has done for me.

Today, I ask forgiveness to the people I have wronged and hurt.

Today, I forgive every person who intentionally or not, have caused me pain.

Today, I acknowledge the opportunities accorded me.

Today, I thank every part of nature, the lush environment and fresh air.

Today, I promise to focus on the positive aspects of life, even in the midst of challenges. Everything I know, has a purpose and the reason behind it is for my own good.

Today, I want to give the best that I can and make other people happy.

Today, I will spread the power of gratitude and positivism that everyone I encounter and those who read this will become enthusiastic and cheerful.

Today, I will share smile to every person I meet. It costs nothing but will help enlighten depressed souls.

Today, I offer my life to the Creator.

Today is the best day of my life… Thank you Lord… You are loved…

Remembering the Month of August @ SAS

One of the highly celebrated months in my high school years is August. Buwan Ng Wika tops the roster of activities highlighting the search for Ginoo and Bibining Wika. Other than this, there are two events in San Antonio School that I always remember, it’s the Parent’s Day Celebration and St. Dominic’s Day. These are usually simultaneously celebrated and I couldn’t help but reminisce these important events.

The Parent’s Day is a time to give thanks to our parents for their unconditional love and continued support. Inspired to socialize with other families and the opportunity to show their talents, the parents association in each class organizes a set of officers who will spearhead in the collection of funds, construction of a fiesta booth and preparation of food for everyone to share with. The event always includes a moment where students give their parents either of roses, thank you cards and other presents. True enough, parents exude happiness and some are even brought to tears because of the gratitude they give and receive from their children.

St. Dominic’s Day is also celebrated to give honor and thanksgiving, being the source of inspiration of the Dominican Order of Preachers. Blessed he was, that he is able to show us the way in knowing more about Jesus. “Amang Santo Domingo” song is a wonderful tribute to St. Dominic. The administrators of San Antonio School and the whole congregation acknowledge the goodness of St. Dominic.

If I am not mistaken, it was on this same day, August 11 more than a decade ago that we celebrated the Parent’s Day and the tribute to St. Dominic. Thank you thank you thank you :-)

Dream… Believe… Survive

Dream… Believe… Survive

These are three of the proven ways to achieve success. These are actions that successful men and women have portrayed. And these are powerful affirmations that I want to follow.

Success is a very precious word. It is something that every man on earth wants to achieve. But the question is, How do we get there from where we are now. Again, How do we get there from where we are now.

Allow me to share with you these three simple steps that I learned from reading motivational books, listening from successful individuals and living the example.

First is to DREAM BIG. Dreaming is a process of setting goals, an awareness of what it is that you want and the foundation of great fortunes.

According to Robert Kiyosaki, the author of the famous Rich Dad Poor Dad Series, one has to write his goals because if these are not written, they become mere wishes which can hardly come true. Bo Sanchez further added that when you write your dreams, forces of nature will work in your favour. It’s as if the universe will conspire to make your dreams come true. This facilitates visualization of dreams; that is to say, seeing yourself successful and having everything you want. Moreover, John Assarafhas consistently shared his story of becoming rich. He used to have a collection of photos showing mansions, money, cars and everything he wanted to have. He kept viewing it and later on in life, he became very rich and famous as a successful entrepreneur and motivational speaker.

Here is an example of a vision board and I also have a video presentation reflecting my dreams in life. I am indeed hopeful that one day, I will achieve all these. As one adage says “A man with a dream will never be denied.”

Second is to Believe in Yourself and Have Faith in God.

You have to believe in yourself when no one else does. That’s what makes you a winner, says Venus Williams, an Olympic gold medallist. Try to be confident. It may be hard at times, but it will be fulfilling. I used to be a shy-type of person in my high school and college days. I never raised a question to my instructors and never ever volunteered for class recitation unless needed when grades are at stake.

I have gained self-confidence because of my dream of becoming rich, significant and successful. I wouldn’t be where I am now if I remained hesitant. For instance, last July 19, 2011, I happened to join a club meeting in Singapore after our educational tour there. I was reluctant at first to join the table topics. The voice within told me to participate and thank God, I was able to deliver my answer so well that I was awarded as “Best in Table Topics.” I didn’t expect it because the winner is determined by the highest number of votes from those who attended and all of them are Singaporeans. Thank God I made it.

If you have a lot of limiting beliefs because you are conscious of what others may think of you, perish the thought. I like Dr. Daniel Amen’s 18/40/60 rule. When you’re 18, you are so conscious of how you appear to other people. When you’re 40, you don’t give a damn what anybody’s thinking of you and when you’re 60, you will realize that nobody’s been thinking about you at all. So quit worrying of what other people may say about you. They are too busy thinking of what you might think about them.

Another important lesson is that you should keep your faith in God no matter what happens. The divine intervention is so powerful that will make you stronger, braver and hopeful. If you are a bit frightened, ask God for guidance and you will be amazed how you handle your fears successfully.

And finally, the third step is: Survive the Test. In moments of unbearable trials, just keep going. Donald Trump always says, “never give up. Never ever ever give up.” The moment you lose focus is the moment that you will dwell into problems. Focus on the solution and never on the problem.

There has been a series of challenges that I face and everytime I wanted to quit, I am reminded of my aspirations in life, my family and my faith in God.

We should remember that Fortune goes to those who take massive actions. This is a bit demanding but this is the plausible way to make things happen. Excuses are not acceptable. Just do things that will make you successful.

Indeed, success is a matter of choice. Choose to be successful or the other way around. It is simply a progressive realization of a worthy ideal, a combination of baby and giant steps towards greatness.

Let me ask, does everyone in this hall want to be successful? So, all of us, regardless of age and status, will dream big, believe in one’s self and have faith in God as well survive the test.

Dream… Believe… Survive…

My Birthday Blog Part IV. The Challenge of Saying “YES”

We live in a world filled with choices. The free will we have suggests our prerogative of what to choose and in each decision we make, we become responsible with the consequences.

Somewhere along the way, you will deal with people asking something from you. It could be a favor, an assignment or a proposal. Either of these instances necessitates your answer. It could be “yes” or “no” and perhaps “maybe.”

There’s nothing wrong with saying yes. In fact, it is thru agreements between two parties that set the pace of something to happen, be it worthwhile or not. Its impact even goes worldwide that with a single “yes”, everything changes. For instance, the “yes” of Mary has changed the history of mankind and our faith. This I learned in high school managed by Dominican Order of Preachers.

In my 27 years of existence, I have been to test of saying yes or no to someone. Of the many requests, proposals, etc. asked of me, I often say “yes” and I have come to a point of asking myself, why??? … specially so that I have become more conscious of the consequences of my decisions.

I consider myself as a highly emotional person that I want to make someone be happy because of my favorable response. This goes to my family whom I love so much and would love to give everything that I have. Individuals who have become breadwinners because of financial constraints could relate well with me and they too will agree how we strive hard to give what they need. For the grownups who have been to it also advised not to make them parasites, after all, they can survive in their own ways.

My coming to Iligan City to further my studies welcomed me with more choices to consider. I have been exposed to the MBM Student Board where I take the lead as the president. Assuming the responsibility entails time for planning, organizing and facilitating events. I admit I enjoy the experience and I love what I am doing. Organizing educational trips for instance is a rewarding experience. I get to know more places, culture and business practices. We also have explored outreach activities like visiting home for the aged, giving alms to the needy and participating in tree growing. My schedules for my studies then have changed because I need to spend time for the student board. I believe learning is at its best if there is application, hence my willingness to undergo such.

Being a student also led me to the blogosphere-community of bloggers. With my classmate Lovette who extended some help for my first blog, I already got excited exploring the blogging world. I wanted then to have a website and I wanted to be a journalist :D. True enough, I enjoyed doing it because I can express myself through writing until Iligan Bloggers Society was created. The first meet and greet allowed us to know some of the bloggers in the city and right there and then was the election of officers. Assuming the responsibility as the Vice President was another challenge. It necessitates focus, coordination and time to perform the responsibilities well. I also admit that I enjoyed the first set of experiences but time has come that I could no longer attend to tasks associated with it not to mention other factors.

Worth mentioning also is my membership in Iligan Toastmasters Club. We meet every other Saturday and the experience is truly amazing. With the tension felt during the session, one can appreciate the lessons embedded in each of the speakers’ talk and the confidence developed in public speaking. I also have learned the essence of preparation for every speaking engagement because your performance matters. I admit that I don’t have perfect attendance. Looking forward though to become a competent communicator and hopefully a distinguished toastmaster someday.

More opportunities have come along my way and I learned the following:

·        Before saying yes, we should review your priorities and commitments.
·         Time Management. We should know how to draft a list of schedules and the ways to perform all of the tasks.

·         Anticipation of Learning. We should make learning a goal in every undertaking that we make.

·         Have fun. For every opportunity and endeavour, we should enjoy the moment and share happiness with our colleagues.

·         Stepping stone towards success. I believe opportunities come along our way because these will lead us towards the success we dreamed of.

·         An opportunity to help others. We should also think of our roles of being an inspiration to others.

·         A chance to make a difference. With the learning we get from everything we go through, hope we can make a difference that would be beneficial to everyone.

The challenge of saying yes continues as we explore life. A road of decisions awaits us and for every choice we make, hope we call on to God for guidance and enlightenment. I thank the Lord for everything I’ve gone through. I know all of these serve as a training ground for me to become a better person. J

My Birthday Blog Part III. Learning to Appreciate Education

Getting educated is everyone’s dream. Having a degree then is one of the greatest achievements one can ever attain. While it is our right to be educated, circumstances say otherwise. Let’s face it, not all get the chance to be educated.

My love for education developed when I realized that only one of my siblings received a college diploma. I wanted to do good in my studies so I could earn a degree. True enough, I was focused with my studies that I graduate in every phase of education on time and with colors.

While it is true that the learning we have in the classroom is far different from the real world and that we often say that it is no longer relevant, certain values are developed as we perform our roles as students. These serve as our strong foundation to face life and deal with challenges. Among these are:

Persistence. Attending classes 5 days a week and 8 hours a day from elementary to high school is surely a humdrum :D How boring it is to go back to those days when we spend more time in the classroom than in our homes :D Throughout these years of struggle, we actually have developed the virtue of persistence. We still go on despite overwhelming odds and we linger no matter how hard situations seemed.

Diligence. With thousands of assignments, seatworks and projects from kindergarten to date, we managed to submit at least 50% of those :D The pressures for all of these requirements, we learned to be diligent and hardworking to submit some of these for the fear of being given an INC or even failing grade. :D In real life, we cope up with the demands of time and the organization which we belong.

Resourcefulness. Occasions every month call for a preparation to undertake and yes, even in our primary years, we were given tasks of bringing fruits, vegetables, flowers, utensils, cleaning materials, rags and every little thing needed in our classrooms. For the exciting month of December, we give ourselves pressures to prepare a creative Christmas tree using indigenous materials and the recycled ones. So resourceful we were that we explored the forests of Tubo-tubo to get pako-pako only to find out that some yelled across river because they were drowning. :D Thank God everyone was saved. To date, we think creatively to meet the requisites of what is pleasing to the eyes. :D

Patience. For at least 16 long years of schooling, we often feel tired. One school year for instance seemed very long that we tend to complain. While we bear the angst, we also learned how to wait :D To wait for another 4 years before getting a college degree after being exposed to 4 challenging years in high school. If we needed something, somehow we become patient to wait for the right time for opportunities to come and for dreams to realize.

Time Management. The various activities we were compelled to join :D and the exhausting hours we spend in the school daily should have crashed us :D Quizzes and exams to pass, assignments and projects to submit were time consuming that every hour missed is a problem of meeting deadlines. We might have missed some requirements, but we also learned how to manage our time in our own ways. To date, being exposed to various obligations poses a problem on our time, but with our extensive experience in school, we somehow know how to balance things. :D

A Sense of Competitiveness. In a class of at least 20, suggests an implied competition. Who speaks well, who writes well, who’s the best in Math, English, Science, etc. Who’s the best dancer, best singer and the list continues. With our desire to do good leads us to become competitive in our ways. True enough, it’s a source of joy at some point and a reason of disappoint at times. Nevertheless, this instance taught us to be better in the real world, more challenging and demanding.

Compassion and Love. Being surrounded with classmates from all walks of life is truly amazing. With everyday need for intermediate and yellow papers as well as ballpoint pens, someone could miss bringing either of these and we tend to empathize :D and the same happens whenever we miss any of these. I could say I was compassionate and other people have been compassionate to me as well.

How about infatuations even when we were in elementary years :D Having crushes made us inspired and motivated to do things great. We honed our feelings to define for the first time what love is :D Along these is the hard times of facing that your crush likes someone. This instance is a great background for dealing with the present if I may say so.

These are just some of the values I have learned through the course of time. You can share yours below this post. I believe you too have more to share on the traits we lived on while we were in the academe. I am indeed thankful for the essence of education, most of which are unseen.

“Truly, it is only with the heart that one can see rightly. What is essential is invisible to the eyes. “ - The Little Prince.

My Birthday Blog Part II. Sharing Happiness and Dreams with my Friends

Every person we meet is a source of learning. Their presence is never a coincidence. People come into our lives to teach us, challenge us and guide us towards success. I am thankful to God that He sends us special people we call FRIENDS.

I have spent my childhood days with a group of kids from whom I found budding friendship. It remains fresh in my mind when we hurdled quite a number of challenging activities like jumping to the ocean from the peak of the ship, swimming endlessly across bridges :D and harvesting some fruits owned by some villagers :D How would I forget how we in a group battled fear when the leader of the group expose us to seemingly fearful situations like the sound of falling twigs by saying it was caused by a “KAPRE” hahaha and that passing by a huge acacia tree made me shiver resulting to a breathtaking track and field so we could move away immediately from the acacia tree… :D hahaha. Worth mentioning is the series of beauty contests we hold in our homes and even near the fox holes. Ten2, Jen2, Kit2, Loloy, Ondoy, Tawin, etc.

These and a lot more routinary activities have helped me conquer fears in various aspects. Thanks to Asterio Ugat Jr, who later on have successfully facilitated the creation of the group BROLJ – an acronym for Brian ven Bag-ao, yours truly, Rolly, Ondoy, Lloyd and Jun2. This circle of friend is truly unparalleled specially the fun we share and the trials we overcome together. Funny it is to say that we do face common challenges for social obligations and even love-life matters. Good to them who have been into a relationship :D Thank you BROLJ for everything. I want you to know how grateful I am to have you in my life. Individually you have shown me the essence of life and the challenge of moving forward no matter what happens.

My high school batchmates create another special group of friends from whom I also shed tears :D it always feels good to meet them from time to time. I miss you guys. Take care always.

My college life has also offered me good friends whom I also miss. Hello Hazel, Imee, Kulot and my kababayans. Glad to have known you guys. Missing you already.

From the depths of my heart, thank you for being part of my life.

Indeed, friends are God’s blessings to us. :-)

My Birthday Blog Part I: Sourcing Strength from my Family

Days from now, I will be turning 27 years old. Setting aside my excitement of what lies ahead, I would like to thank 7 important people in my life who made me what I am now today and who I will become in the future.
First on the list is my family.

Born to be the youngest of 8 siblings, I feel I was the most loved and cared :D – this is what every youngest kid would feel. I was given most of my parents’ attention and even that of my brothers and a sister. That was way then when I always cried for my needs to be satisfied. :D
Given the situation when family members had barely reached college, my love for education was developed. I used to be a consistent honor student from my primary years to college. My mother always had the privilege to pin me the ribbon or award me the medal. I had a goal then to finish a college degree in four years time so I could land a good job and be able to help them. With the help of my siblings who are with their respective families already, I was able to equip myself with the most basic needs a student can have. I must say that we are financially challenged and this has led me to aspire more for my family. Graduating college was my way of extending gratitude to my siblings and the award I received was dedicated to my parents for keeping me focused to my dreams.

I thank my Nanay who kept reminding me of our family’s future if I won’t do good in my studies. (Till now, I remain the single in the family with no intimate relationship with someone :D) I thank my Tatay, who was more than willing enough to give me his hard earned money from piggy bank so I could go to MSU, Marawi. I thank my siblings for supporting me financially. And I would thank my 14 nephews and nieces who serve as my additional source of inspiration.

To my family who believes in me, thank you so much. You are a source of strength to me and I wouldn’t be what I am now without your love and support. I admit I haven’t realized more of my dreams to give you a more comfortable life and this just keeps me going. Salamat kadayaw sa inyo tanan. I love you. God bless you…

I'm excited to meet you... :-)

I was browsing the internet when I encountered this photo shared on facebook:

“YOU DON’T NEED SOMEONE TO COMPLETE YOU. YOU ONLY NEED SOMEONE TO ACCEPT YOU COMPLETELY.”

The texts made me pause and smile for a while :D not mainly because I’m still single at this very age, but simply because of the thought that I will be able to find someone who would accept me completely :D Hmmmm… I’m excited to meet you… :D

What made Myrtle the PBB Teen Edition Big Winner

Pinoy Big Brother is a reality show on television whereby housemates are given various tasks and challenges to show off their personalities and test their ability to deal with other individuals. ABS-CBN recently concluded PBB Teen Edition on July 7, 2012 and proclaimed Myrtle Sarrosa as the Big Winner at Malolos Sports and Convention Center.

What I admired most with Myrtle is her determination to win the competition. She had a clear goal of making it to the top. For instance, among the Big Four, she was the sole contender to be very honest of winning the contest. She was wholehearted in putting her banner on the flag hole even if it meant criticisms from the society by virtue of “pakikisama” or living up with the Joneses so to speak. She didn’t mind what other people think of her, instead, she pursued her dream of becoming the BIG WINNER – This I like and would love to emulate because oftentimes, I become so conscious of what other people think of me. This reminds me of Dr. Amen’s 18/40/60 rule which goes:

“When you’re 18, you worry about what everybody is thinking of you; when you’re 40, you don’t give a darn what anybody thinks of you; when you’re 60, you realize nobody’s been thinking about you at all.”

We shouldn’t be clouded with our reservations of what other people may think of us. Oftentimes, this could hinder us from doing actions that would make us become better persons and be successful.

I’m not an avid fan of PBB because there are tasks that I find irrelevant and nonsense. Nevertheless, lessons learned make it worth the watch.

To all young men out there, continue believing in your dreams. Never let anyone take it away from you through their criticisms, so long as you are doing things right. God bless us... :-)

Happy Mother's Day Nanay

Dear Nanay,

Happy Mother's Day to you Nanay. Just want you to know how grateful I am to have you as my mother. I am still amazed how you and Tatay raised 8 of us despite challenges in life. I could still remember how you thrived in earning money to feed us. I wouldn't be what I am now and what I will become had it not for your perseverance and sacrifices.

My graduation in high school has been very challenging to you because I will pursue my college education. It remains fresh in my mind how eager I was to enroll but there were apprehensions on your part on how to support me financially. It brought me to tears because I know the economic situation we are in. After deciding that I will take the entrance exam at Mindanao State University, Marawi City (MSU), the problem intensified as to where can we have the money for my trip. Then, you helped Tatay decide to open his "alkansiya" (piggybank) so I could go to MSU. Thank God it was good enough for the trip, entrance exam fees, board and lodging and other expenses in 1 month. Those hard earned money brought me to MSU where my dreams were further shaped and strengthened. Thank God for the university with a very cheap tuition fee and a place where everything is highly affordable. It is for this reason that I admire you and Tatay the most. You were hopeful that my journey would be fruitful with the help of my brother and sister who were equally willing to support me throughout my student life. Thank God for my brother and sister. I had one goal then, to finish my course within four-year time so I could find a job and help our family.

As the youngest of the 8 siblings, "homesickness" was the greatest struggle I had to face and everytime I talk with you through PLDT, I burst into tears because I miss being with you and I was worried then who will accompany you at home. There was even an instance when you tried to fetch me at MSU and continue my studies near our place. Thanks to Brian - one of my best friends who convinced me not to go home prior to your arrival in MSU. More gratitude to you Nanay for heeding my decision of not going home with you. But tears further flooded when you returned home. huhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhu... This is just a parcel of everything I went through and I am just thankful for all the struggles.  *

To you Nanay and Tatay, no words can express how happy and thankful I am to have you in my life. Continue your hopes for me and for our family that one day we will experience great happiness. I pray to God that He will give you both good health so I can share with you the achievement of my dreamed successes and let you experience how beautiful life is. From the depths of my heart, thank you so much whatever it is... You are loved...

Evaluating DOT's Pilipinas Kay Ganda Campaign

Planning and implementing change comprise the core concepts of a fearless entrepreneurial undertaking. These define the parameters of what should be improved and how to support it. On November 15, 2010, the Department of Tourism took the challenge of innovation by changing the slogan of the Philippine Tourism Industry from WOW Philippines to PILIPINAS KAY GANDA. This move was scrutinized by millions of Filipinos consisting of the experts and the commoners.

As a marketing enthusiast, I commend the following:

1. The effort of the DOT to come up with a new tagline that goes PILIPINAS KAY GANDA. One of the characteristics of a good brand name is that it should be distinctive. The slogan meets this criterion and I simply like it. I would even agree to what Usec. Romano said that it would make us far different from our neighboring countries using English language as the medium for their slogans. It’s about time that we make use of Tagalog words in promoting our country across the globe. Manny Pacquiao, Venus Raj and Charice Pempengco are just some of our fellow Filipinos who made our country very popular and well recognized. Their international success must have influenced the decision to come up with the tagline because foreigners can mentally associate them with excellence and that Philippines must be a very nice country because of so many talented individuals. Promotion then to foreigners would be easier if these three will act as endorsers of the campaign. Also, if we have understood foreign brands termed in Latin, French, etc., foreigners will also learn ours. It’s just a matter of strengthening the brand awareness level by exploiting all the major media of marketing communications.

2. Having a bright colored brand mark depicting the country’s tropical nature, captivating beaches and exotic wildlife. I personally don’t consider it as a plagiarism no matter what clause could be people’s basis for saying it, be it legal or ethical. In the universal realm of art, THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS ORIGINAL, EVERY IDEA WORTH HAVING HAS BEEN HAD THOUSANDS OF TIMES ALREADY – the learning I have in my Humanities subject in college. Truly, it was not even a close imitation because of the variations in many aspects. It’s just that, it gave the artist an idea of how the logo of the Philippine tourism would look like. He then used his creativity to have his own unique version.

However, it was also very apparent that the team had major flaws on the following:

1. Creating a website with its domain name quite similar to a certain pornographic site. I really got upset because the IT professionals could have detected this immediately if they made a thorough research regarding the web address. It’s quite embarrassing that Philippines, a Christian nation is indirectly promoting pornography with that matter.

2. Launching a website with many typographical and grammatical errors. These could have been avoided if the editors worked religiously and conscientiously to make certain that every words and sentences appearing on the site are accurate. They were so negligent and it made me disappointed.

3. Introducing a new brand name without doing test marketing. If only they did pretesting of this very crucial marketing campaign, they could have identified problems and immediately make some changes before the final launching. This is done by making a survey on a limited scale how people would react to the brand, slogan, color and every single detail of the product. A careful analysis follows and after solving major problems, it would again be screened by the top management and even some calibers to make some refinements. If results of this process show that it is ready for commercialization, then comes the schedule of its grand launching. Php 5,000,000.00 could not have been wasted for this fatal mistake.

Nevertheless, the incident gave so many lessons learned.

First, the head of any project should be knowledgeable of what is being done and take hands on management to monitor closely the whole project. Highly competent individuals in the field of business as well as other critics should be sought to carefully review every process undertaken.

Second, branding takes time and focused efforts to make it more effective. It’s a challenging process that undergoes idea generation, screening it out, making a detailed plan, developing a prototype or sample, test marketing and finally commercialization or the final launching of the product. It is not an overnight activity that anyone would compromise.

Third, let’s be appreciative of our very own language. It’s indeed timely that we take pride with it and guide people across the globe to understand. Marketing communications will help us realize this specially these days when internet makes this world borderless. After all, we have world renowned tourist destinations that foreigners would love to visit regularly. Hence, my recommendation goes to PILIPINAS KAY GANDA as the fascinating and captivating tagline to amaze all the people in the world.

Truly, a successful and worthwhile endeavor lies in the concerted efforts of all the concerned. Creating and launching a new brand for instance requires everyone’s full participation and cooperation to make it a great success.

I just learned my lesson the hard way…

It has been said that the most important meal of the day is the breakfast. I learned this since high school and have managed to follow it until I become an employee. Since then, I was so conscious not to skip breakfast for the fear of getting ulcer and other related diseases.

Over a month a ago, I changed my diet by eating biscuits and drinking a cup of milk as my breakfast. However, I still crave to eat rice and viand because I'm used to it. There are times though, that I take my complete breakfast (rice and viand) even if its past 9 0r 10 o'clock in the morning. This has become my routine until I woke up this morning experiencing stomach ache.

Flatulence (panuhot) was all I can think of because last night, I slept without a shirt because of the seemingly hot climate this summer. I used efficascent oil and hoped the pain would subside. I slept again and the pain has subsided. I went to the city at 10:30AM and took my breakfast at 11:00AM.

After eating lunch, my stomach was aching. It made me think then that it might be stomach ulcer!!! The pain though was on and off until at 3:00pm, it was unbearable. Then I remembered last year when Kuya Ron suffered from ulcer and took tabon tabon as his alternative medicine for ulcer after being discharged from the hospital. Immediately, I requested Abel to accompany me in going to Pala-o market to buy Tabon-tabon, Alpine and Honey (at FK Mart).

I stayed at Tipanoy and requested Te Gina to prepare the tabon tabon juice. I was trying to bear the pain until I took the juice. I feel nauseated but managed not to vomit. I just took a rest and the pain temporarily vanished.

I had dinner then and after an hour, the pain went back and it was unbearable. Then I vomited what I have eaten. It was a bit painful but thank God, I went through it. I am praying that I can fully recover and be well.

I just learned my lesson the hard way… I commit myself to eat my meals on time. I should not take for granted my diet… I thank all the people who have helped me manage this predicament. Salamat Ma’am Kamik for the liniment. Salamat Sir Alphe for the bread. Salamat Abel for the company. Salamat Te Gina for preparing the tabon2 juice and for the tinola. Salamat Kuya Ron and Sarah for the warm welcome. Salamat Lord.

Below was my post last April 17, 2011 in facebook when Kuya Ron struggled with stomach ulcer. Please care to read and share. Thanks.

DO YOU KNOW THAT Tabon tabon fruit is a very good remedy for stomach ulcer and other related diseases?

It is commonly used as an ingredient of "kinilaw" but unknown to many, its main contribution is to neutralize the acid of other ingredients. If you know someone suffering from gastritis, hyperacidity and the like, please advise and follow these steps:

Buy 5-10 tabon tabon fruit.
Slice the fruit.
Scrape its meat.
Add 2-3 tablespoon(s) water and squeeze.
Use a strainer.
Mix 1 tablespoon of honey to offset the undesirable taste :-)
It's ready to drink :-)

REACTIONS: You will nauseate and vomit, an indication of removing the acid from your stomach and accordingly, the sticky component of the fruit will subside into the stomach lining.

It has been proven to be effective. Kuya Ron just took it yesterday, he vomited and felt exhausted. Now, he's feeling well and good. :-) Thanks to Tabon tabon fruit, one of nature's amazing contribution to wellness :-) Thank God for the fruit :-)

The Echoes of My Heart: “What Makes You Happy?”

“What makes you happy” is one of the mind-boggling questions a person faces. At times, it leaves the individual puzzled considering the various perspectives from which to base his answer. While there is no yardstick as to the level of happiness, one thing is for sure: We are born to be happy.
I believe that happiness emanates from a grateful heart. No matter how troublesome and challenging the situation is, one remains to be happy because of the gratitude flourishing within him. In my 26 years of existence, I have never been so conscious on the importance of gratitude until I read some motivational books featuring GRATITUDE as a very important component to experience happiness. Saying “thank you” more than a hundred times in a day for instance is just awesome. There are a lot of blessings to acknowledge and I feel great everytime I do this. There are even moments that tears flew from my eyes because of the expressed gratitude. It is for this reason that I keep myself hopeful amid challenges in life.
Dated November 12, 2011, Alexander quoted Explore Iligan’s post about Seven Rules to be Happy; to wit:
1. Never Hate
2. Don’t Worry
3. Live Simply
4. Expect Little
5. Give a Lot
6. Always Smile
7. Best of All Stay in Love
Then, a challenge to say something about it sprouted as Lisa Marie enthusiastically shared her thoughts about the matter. Thanks Lai because this will revive a new momentum for my creative writing as I call it. So, here’s my stand on the Seven Rules to be Happy.
Never Hate. I admit I hated some people and I tend to move away from them. It’s one of my struggles and I need to deal with it. I really value the essence of communication and true enough, I would let the person know how big the impact was for me and then be reconciled.
Don’t Worry. It is common to many of worrying what is yet to come and I admit, I’m one of them. This is one of the reasons why I deprive myself to some activities because I am apprehensive of what tomorrow brings. I am even often told by my friends not to worry because tomorrow has its own worries and that I should focus on the present day and find time to enjoy.
Live Simply. I always do, even in the choices of food that I buy. Hmmm… Haven’t had the chance to buy new clothes for quite some time not just because I still have something to wear but because I’m on a tight budget. I also aspire to live a luxurious life in the future
Expect Little. There were a lot of instances that I got disappointed and a bit hurt because I expected too much. Having learned those, I expect little then.
Give a Lot. I have committed to give support to my family in ways I could. One weakness I have is that I can hardly say “no” when I needed to. This makes me dream of becoming rich so I can give more and help them become blessings to others as well.
Always Smile. I graciously smile because it makes me feel good all throughout the day. I appreciate people who show smile because they too brighten up my day. Sales ladies and gents can never be effective without a welcoming smile.
Stay in Love. I always believe in the power of love, which is also the origin of all positive feelings. When it comes to romantic love, I admit I haven’t been into a relationship in this context but it doesn’t make me less of a person. Reminiscing some special people in my life makes me thank them for helping me become emotionally strong. I’m excited though for the right person prepared for me.
And so everyday, I just have to stay in love with my family, career, friends and the Almighty.
In closing, I believe that we are born to be happy and life itself is a blessing that we need to explore and enjoy. Let’s share our happiness to everyone.
